What are herbal teas?

Herbal teas, sometimes referred to as herbal infusions or their scientific name, tisanes, are beverages made from the infusion or decoction of herbs, spices, fruits and other plant material in hot water. Many of the herbs that are used to make herbal teas are essential in herbal medicine.


How long should I steep my tea?

Herbal teas should be steeped  for five or more minutes. Make sure you are using boiling water. Herbal teas normally  do not become bitter if you steep them for long periods of time. The longer herbal tea steep, the more potent the medicinal properties are  in the tea. Black tea should be steeped for 3 to 5 minutes. Green tea should be steeped for 1 to 2 minutes, and Oolong tea should be steeped for 2 to 3 minutes.


How many cups of tea will I get from each of the tea sizes?

The number of cups of tea you get from each size will vary based on the bulkiness of the herbs and how much of the tea is put in the infusers. A 2 oz. bag you should get about 30 cups; and a 3.5 oz. bag you should get about 45 cups.


Is it safe to drink herbal teas everyday?

Evidence from studies have shown that drinking tea regularly can have a lasting positive impact on your overall health and wellness.


What time is best to drink herbal tea?

The best times to drink herbal teas are an hour after breakfast or lunch, and  in the evening before bed with a light snack.


Can I drink too much tea?

It is advised that you speak with your healthcare provider before starting any herbal regimen. Although most people can drink 3–4 cups of tea daily without any adverse effects, some may experience side effects at lower doses. It is important to monitor how you feel after drinking herbal tea and note any changes. In most cases, any side effects will subside in a few hours and can be fixed by reducing your intake. If side effects continue, discontinue use. 


How do I measure the loose tea?

One teaspoon for 6 oz. cup of water and one heaping teaspoon for 8 oz. cup of water. For a stronger tea allow herbs to steep longer.
